Traditional bow projects

Here are some examples of bows I have built. If I still have them, they may be for sale. If you see something you like and it is no longer available, I can build one like it for you.

I'm currently building longbows at 68 inches and recurves at 60 inches. All come with clear glass on the limbs to show off the wood beneath.

I can do custom requests -- depending on what woods are available at the time of the order.

Prices range from $225 for a basic longbow to $375 for a fancier recurve with elements such as overlays and multiple laminations of different woods. Each bow comes with a handmade Flemish twist string (there is a choice of colors).

Delivery time after receipt of a 50 percent deposit is four to six weeks, depending on availability of materials. The remaining 50 percent is due when the bow is completed and before it ships.

This birch-overlaid bow has a walnut riser and cocobolo limbs. Draw weight is 44 pounds.
This 33-pound recurve is a special project for my wife -- her target bow -- so it's a look-but-don't-sell. The riser is birdseye maple. Limbs are cocobolo. The layers at the limb tips and at the grip are maple and cocobolo. There are birch bark overlays on the limbs, and there is a real fern frond imbedded in the sight window.
This 57-pounder has a laminated riser featuring black walnut, birdseye maple and some osage highlights. Limbs are cocobolo.
This 66-pounder has purple heart highlights on a bubinger riser. Limbs are red elm.
The riser of this 44-pound deflex-reflex longbow mixes black walnut and birdseye maple. The limbs are cocobolo. The riser-grip of this one is a hybrid. I've built in a thumb rest and made it "deeper" to better fill the palm of the hand. Because the riser has a little more mass than the average longbow, it is a bit kinder from a hand-shock perspective.
